Chris Protzman is VP/GM for E.W. Scripps Knoxville radio operations. He also serves as VP of Radio Sales for the 34 stations in the Scripps Radio Group. Protzman began his professional broadcast career at Journal Broadcast Group's Flagship Milwaukee station, Newsradio 620 WTMJ-AM, when he was hired as an Account Executive in 1987. In 1994 he was promoted to Local Sales Manager of the station. He left in 1996 to pursue an ownership position as a partner of K.L. Stewart & Assocs. later returned to Journal Broadcast Group in 2001 as General Sales Manager for Milwaukee's WKTI-FM.
In 2004, Protzman was named VP/GM of the Journal Broadcast Group's Knoxville Operations, a four-station cluster that includes WWST-FM, WCYQ-FM, WKHT-FM and WCYQ-FM. He was named Senior Vice President in 2012, adding WFTX-TV FOX 4 in Fort Myers, Fla., and WSYM-TV FOX 47 in Lansing, Mich. and the Fox Network relationship under his leadership.
In 2014, he transitioned to his current Radio group role and remains active in several professional, charitable and civic organizations. Current Regional Director of the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters, Founder and Current President-Emeritus of the Smoky Mountain Animal Care Foundation, Past board member of Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation and current Volunteer and Committee Chair at East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
Chris and Debbie, his wife of 27 years, live in Maryville TN.
